River

River is an absolute delight. He loves to give two-paw hugs and snuggle up under the chin, or on the lap, of any of his people. River usually loves to be picked up for snuggles and rubs or pats and will signal when he's had enough by wiggling or jumping down. He talks to his people to tell them when he wants food, company when he is eating, snuggles or playtime. River enjoys watching squirrels and birds from the window, or playing with one of his mouse toys. He may nap on or near one of his people, but is now also often found napping on a comfy couch, chair or on someone's bed. He is a great work from home or study companion! River must be the only cat in his new family.

River has adjusted well to living inside again and is accustomed to the daily noises of life in his foster home, although he can be distracted from eating if it is too busy or loud. He has become confident and more independent and has recently begun exploring high places around his foster home. He is generally happy to meet new people and often accepts them quickly. He travels well in the car, as long as his crate is high enough for him to see out the window.

River has no teeth and is missing one third of his tongue, so he has particular needs when it comes to eating. It is suspected that he has food allergies so he eats a limited ingredient dry kibble purchased at a pet food store and wet food for cats with food sensitivities from the vet. This dry food's shape and size also enables him to pick up his food more easily. He needs a small steep sided round bowl (which we will provide) to help him pick up his dry food, and once he's done his best, the remaining crunchies are mixed with about a tablespoon of wet food. River has the most success at eating the last food when it is arranged in small piles of 2-4 crunchies (mixed with wet food ) for him in a flat bowl (also provided).
