FAQ
We do not take in owned cats. NHKR is a small foster based rescue dedicated to taking in stray/abandoned kittens and cats. We are set up primarily for kittens and have limited foster homes for cats.
Our adoption fees are:
• Kittens up to 1 year $200.00
• Cats 1 year and older $160.00
* We only accept cash.
Part of our mandate is to provide affordable pets. We accomplish this because our Community Partners fundraise, host food drives, donate and significantly discount products and services we use thereby keeping our expenses low.
We do not make a profit adopting kittens and cats. Often their medical expenses exceed their adoption fee. Especially for adult cats that require blood work, testing or dental work prior to their adoption.
We trap or catch stray/abandoned kittens and cats, socialize them and ready them for adoption. We do not take in owned cats.
Our kittens and cats live with foster families, so we have a good idea of their personalities and we can help you decide which feline best suits your lifestyle and home. View our Available Kittens & Cats and look for a profile that best suits your family's needs. Do not choose your kitten or cats by the colour or appearance - instead choose the personality.
"Socialized" means that our kittens and cats are not kept in cages. Our kittens and cats live in foster homes as part of their family. We play with them, expose them to common household noises, activities, and depending on the foster home, other animals (kittens, cats, dogs, etc...) as well as adults and children.
Our kittens are raised in foster homes so they are accustomed to household sounds and happenings. Our kittens are spayed or neutered, microchipped, their shots are up-to-date, they have been treated for parasites and socialized. The kitten & cat profiles are accurate and honest.
NHKR is proactive - we strive to spay/neuter all adult cats we come into contact with, to reduce the number of unwanted kittens.
We have no paid employees. We are a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers. Any money we raise through fundraisers, donations or adoption feesis used to purchase food, litter, medication and pay our veterinary bills.
We are always in need of donations, new foster homes, help with fundraising and other odd jobs. Contact us for additional information.
Money is most useful as we receive discounts on food, litter and medication when we purchase it from one of our community partners. Our felines are fed Performatrin (Pet Valu brand) dry food and any brand of canned food unless they are on a vet prescribed diet. We use unscented clumping clay litter. We accept gently used cat scratchers, toys, food and water bowls.
